August Rush

20 Sep

Soooo…

One upon a time, there was a girl with a blog.  She loved the blog very, very much and looked phorward to working on it each day.  Then her life turned upside down, and she began to neglect the blog.

See, one could blame The Phella, partially, because by getting back together, that put moving into the works.  Moving requires a lot- job searching, house searching, purging, packing, pharewelling… you get the picture.

THEN you actually phind all those things and actually move… and that leads to not having internet.  And that, my phriends, makes blogging rather difficult.

So where does that put us, you ask?  It puts us in Davis (well, San Diego at this exact moment visiting phriends before having to return to a horribly disorganized, half unpacked, very small and oven-less house in Davis) with lots of catching up to do.

Below is August 1 through August 27.  I saved the rest of the month for its own post because of an amazing themed birthday party I went to where the phood most certainly warranted its own post.

And hopefully, by the end of this week, we’ll be back in real time.  And we can explore the culinary options available to an oven-less Davis neophyte such as myself…

Phood Before Phlying

3 May

On Thursday, I took lunch over to my rather preggers phriend who had been wanting to try The Bakery Station.  I brought along a Road Hog and the Bel Air seen below.  I got through half of the Bel Air before getting phull of tastiness.

I also indulged in a phew tasty Pop Chips in between sando bites.

For second lunch (and yes, I can justify having two lunches in one day if I try hard enough) I had a gratifyingly greasy piece of Pizza Factory pepperoni pizza.

Turns out it was a good thing I had two lunches, because I phlew to Portland on Thursday night and my phlight was so delayed, I didn’t get in until almost midnight.

It was not exactly the nutritious day most people might select the day before their graduate school portfolio defense, but I have always liked to pave my own path…

WIN WIN WIN!

20 Apr

Once a year, and ONLY once a year, I rise before the sun with joy.

Mind you, I rise before the sun on a regular basis (I commute to graduate school an entire state away, so it’s par for the course until I graduate) but rarely do I rise with joy

This one annual joyous morning is the Child Abuse Prevention Council breakfast- an opportunity for all the weird people who pheel that it is a privilege and a joy to work amidst a sea of pain and heartache to get together and celebrate accomplishments of organizations and individuals in the phield.  This year, it happened to be my organization that received the honor.

What an incredibly awesome and phabulously special day!   …(and breakfast was tasty, too!)

WIN!

To add to such an awesome day, it was also a “swear in” day for our new volunteers.  Not only does that mean more people to work with more kids, but it also means Pizza Factory for lunch.

WIN WIN!

I had “one” piece, if you agree to the rule that if two pieces are significantly attached to each other than they count as one piece (and thus half the calories).  I phollowed it up with a salad for good measure. 🙂

The dinner hour was passed at Cypress Inn in downtown Carmel, a wonderful Phooey-phriendly spot.  I opted for their special Hazelnut-crusted Halibut special and was honestly delighted by it.  Moist, phlaky phish and crisp, phlavorful veggies in a decadent but light sauce.

WIN WIN WIN!

I shared dessert with my dining companion- a cheese plate that initially included apple slices which were promptly phed to The Phoo.

I did my best to polish off the creamy wedge of deliciousness in the phoreground, even though I had no room at the inn after the main course.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed making the gustatory effort!
